The 2024 in-person meeting for the All-Ireland Network for Gender Equality in Chemistry took place on 15th May 2024. The meeting consisted of invited presentations from Ireland and UK Chemical Sciences Athena Swan holders (Prof. Paul Kavanagh, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, QUB; Prof. Graeme Watson, School of Chemistry, TCD), and the RSC’s Inclusion & Diversity committee (Dr. Ilaria Meazzini, MRSC, Senior Programme Manager). Additionally, Prof. Elaine O'Reilly (School of Chemistry, UCD) highlighted the RISE initiative funded by the RSC, that offers structured mentoring and practical experience to Retain, Inspire, Support and Enhance (RISE) undergraduate students from ethnically underrepresented groups in the Chemical Sciences. Many thanks to the meeting organiser, Larisa Florea, and to all our presenters. We look forward to our next gathering and supporting one another in this area.

Prof Watson, Head of School and former Chair of the EDI Committee in the School of Chemistry at Trinity College Dublin, talked about the School's Athena Swan journey. In Aug 2023, the School of Chemistry at Trinity College Dublin was recognised with an Athena Swan Silver award.

Prof. Paul Kavanagh gave a talk entitled "Pathways to Parity:
Advancing Gender Equality in Chemistry Through Collaborative Partnerships" which highlighted the importance of collaborative partnerships to support sharing of EDI good practices and ‘what works’ across Chemical Sciences Departments in Ireland.

Dr. Ilaria Meazzini, Senior Programme Manager for Inclusion & Diversity at the Royal Society of Chemistry and former TCD PhD graduate, also joined the meeting and provided invaluable information regarding initiatives and supports available from the RSC to advance gender equality in Chemistry. Specifically, the RSC provides an Inclusion & Diversity fund for innovative activities and projects to support inclusion and diversity in the Chemical Sciences.
