Annual Network Meeting, 15/05/2024
Representatives from Chemical Sciences Departments across all Irish Third Level Educational Institutions gathered for the meeting of the All-Ireland Network for Gender Equality in Chemistry.
The meeting consisted of invited presentations from UK and Ireland Chemical Sciences Athena Swan holders (2 AS Silver accreditation), roundÂtable discussions and several presentations on EDI initiatives, past and present actions, successes and challenges, and advice on moving towards AS Silver accreditation. The Network will continue to meet online to discuss challenges, share best practices, and assist with planning to advance EDI activities and actions at local level.

Dr. Ilaria Meazzini, Senior Programme Manager for Inclusion & Diversity at the Royal Society of Chemistry and former TCD PhD graduate, also joined the meeting and provided invaluable information regarding initiatives and supports available from the RSC to advance gender equality in Chemistry. Specifically, the RSC provides an Inclusion & Diversity fund for innovative activities and projects to support inclusion and diversity in the Chemical Sciences.
Many thanks to the meeting organiser, Prof. Larisa Florea, and to all our presenters, Prof. Graeme Watson (TCD), Prof. Paul Kavanagh (QUB), Dr. Ilaria Meazzini (RSC) and Prof. Elaine O’Reilly (UCD) for their excellent contributions. A special thanks to Ben Power (TCD) and all our PhD student volunteers, who handled the registration, posters, and general organisation. We look forward to our next gathering and supporting one another in this area.
